Tax Internet Sales, My Ass(etts)
Internet Tax
Yep, here we go again. The Federal Government has managed to squeeze the copper
out of every last penny they can dig up, tax, or mint, so they’re creating new
taxes.
The Fools on the Hill have shaken thier Magic 8 Ball again, and this time Tax
Internet Sales came up. Brilliant. With over 7,000 tax agencies and 50 states
that have different rules regarding business and taxation involved, this shining
example of stupefaction will undoubtedly cost us more than it generates, as most
government initiatives do.
California has already raised the bar on the Duh Factor by requiring it’s
residents to pay the difference in Sales Tax on purchases they make out of state.
C’mon! First, you’ve got to get people to report it, and then, you’ve got to pay
people to enforce it. How many people actually keep the reciepts for a a
swimsuit, a pair of sandals and a tube of sunscreen they bought while vacationing
in Florida, and then willingly pay the Sales Tax difference to California when
they get home? Am I the only one who feels like he’s living in a low-IQ version
of the Twilight Zone?
Now, the Feds are going to spend a fortune to create a taxation system that
forces online businesses all across the country to pay sales tax to states they
aren’t even licensed or required to pay sales tax to. Can we really afford this
kind of idocy at any time, much less in our current economic condition?
Of course, this comes on the heels of lots of pressure from all the big-box store
chains out there who are losing money to small, hard-working entrepreneurs. It’s
not enough that these chains have forced mom-and-pop businesses OUT of business
for decades. They want to KEEP small business out of thier way at any cost.
The politicians (yeeccchhh!) keeps saying that the small entrepreneurial
businesses in this country are going to be the backbone of our economic recovery,
then they turn around and raise personal taxes on entrepreneurs, and try to
strangle thier businesses by imposing complex, confusing, expensive and time-
consuming tax models on them.
Somebody had better wake up and smell the stagnation. I’d say I can’t wait until
the next election, but I don’t expect any better from any other politician,
present or future.
