History of THE NETHERLANDS
The history of the Netherlands is the history of the
dis- charge area of two large European rivers, the Rhine and the Maas. Under
nioderate climatic conditions tlelta arras pos-sess the advantage of being
easily made arable; this was also the case with tlic Rhine and Maas delta,
which from very earlier times contributed to the prosperity of the area, and
in later days of improved agricultural metliotls yielded the wealth which
helped to make possilble the great number of its present population. In fact,
the Netherlands is one of the most densely populated countries in the
world.
